Women's Soccer Stymies LaGrange for Third Straight Win

The Emory University women's soccer team won its third straight game on Wednesday night, defeating LaGrange College 4-0. Four different Eagles scored in the contest and with the win, Emory moved to 26-1-3 all-time in home openers and is unbeaten in its last 29 such games.

The Eagles completely controlled the flow of the game from the opening kickoff as Emory kept the ball on their side of the field for virtually the entire 90 minutes. The Blue and Gold outshot the Panthers 32-0 with 17 shots being on goal.

Kaitlyn Dorka began the scoring, putting in a loose ball right in front to give Emory a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Cristina Ramirez made it 2-0 in the 50th as her shot looked to be stopped by the LaGrange goalkeeper but the GK mishandled the ball and it trickled into the net.

In the 68th minute, Abbe McCarter made it 3-0 Eagles as her shot deflected off a defender and past the goalie to give Emory a three goal edge. Sophia Dillion provided the final blow as she scored off a Melissa Ardizzone pass following a Grace Jarrett in the 74th minute.

Kristin Temple saw her first action of the season, making the start and went untested during her 78:55 minutes of play. Danielle Staffin made her collegiate debut in the game, coming in for Temple with just over 11 minutes remaining and she did not see any ball come her way.

With the victory, Emory also extended their regular season home winning streak against non-conference opponents to 72 games which dates back to the 2000 season. The Eagles will look to continue the streak as they take on Birmingham Southern on Friday night at the Woodruff PE Center. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
