Ramirez's Two Second Half Goals Lifts Emory to Fifth Straight Win

Two goals late in the second half from Cristina Ramirez helped the Emory University women's soccer team to their fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon, beating Berry College 3-1.

Ramirez found the back of the net on a hard, straight shot in 77th minute to break a 1-1 tie and then again in the 82nd off a cross from Anna Gurney to give the Eagles the 3-1 final margin. The goals were her team-leading third and fourth of the season.

Emory opened the scoring in the 14th minute as Melinda Altamore converted on a penalty kick for her second tally on the year. The Vikings answered in the 56th as Tori Shonk beat Liz Arnold to the far side to tie the game.

Arnold finished with two saves in the contest as the Emory defense continued their strong play, limiting Berry to four shots with three on goal. The Eagles had 17 shots in the game with 10 being on target.

The Blue and Gold will return to the Woodruff PE Center next Friday and Sunday for a pair of non-conference matchups against Brooklyn and #1-ranked Lynchburg.
