University Athletic Association competition returns for women's soccer as the Emory University Eagles host the University of Chicago in the conference opener Saturday morning at the Woodruff PE Center. Opening touch is scheduled for 11:00 AM EST.
The Eagles (7-1-1) look to rebound after being handed their first loss of the season this past Sunday, falling to Lynchburg, 2-1, in Charlotte, NC. This week, Emory slipped seven spots in the D3Soccer.com National Poll, sitting 18th nationally, and are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Junior Kylie Hall leads Emory's third-ranked offense with four goals and five assists for 13 points. Hall is one of five Eagles with four goals on the season, being joined by seniors Samantha Hilsee, Molly Miller, junior Aubrey Blanchard and sophomore Olivia McBerry.
For Chicago, the Maroons saw their eight-game winning streak snapped come to end this past Tuesday, playing Illinois Wesleyan to a 2-2 double overtime tie. Chicago, 8-0-1 overall, enters the weekend ranked ninth in the United Soccer Coaches poll and fourth in the D3Soccer.com ranking. Junior Hannah Rittenhouse has been a proven spark off the bench this season, leading the team with nine goals and 19 points despite not starting a single contest while senior Adriana Shutler has netted seven goals and three assists for the high-powered Chicago offense. The Maroons carry the nation's top-ranked offense and have outscored opponents 51-2 through the first month of the season.
Saturday is the 35th all-time meeting between the two schools with Emory leading 17-14-3. Chicago has won the previous three meetings including a 2-1 decision in Illinois in 2019.
