#3 WashU Edges Emory Women's Soccer on Last-Minute Goal

The Emory University women's soccer team was handed a heartbreaking defeat Sunday afternoon, losing in the closing seconds to No. 3 ranked Washington University.

WashU's Jolie Carl and Eve Kubala combined for the breakaway cross and finish with 41 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Bears the 1-0 victory. With the win, WashU remains unbeaten at 9-0-1 and 2-0-0 in the UAA while the Eagles drop to 8-3-1 and 0-2-0 in the conference.

The Eagles had several chances to score in the early goings of the afternoon, putting four attempts on the goal within the first half but was denied by goalkeeper Sidney Conner who finished with six saves for the clean sheet.

Sophomore Grace Reyer and junior Kylie Hall each had chances during the first 15 minutes but the ball found the gloves of Conner. Emory had another chance in the final moments before the first half whistle with a shot off the foot of sophomore Olivia Friedman but Conner was there for another save.

Junior Emma Miller was solid in her second consecutive start as she made a season-high five saves including four in the second half.

The Eagles will be back at the Woodruff PE Center next weekend with home matches against Case Western Reserve (Oct. 15) and Carnegie Mellon University (Oct. 17).
