Women's Soccer Stifles Berry, 5-0, in Season Opener

The Emory University women's soccer team led off the 2022 season with an exclamation point Thursday evening, blitzing past in-state foe Berry College, 5-0, at Bob Pearson Field in Mount Berry, GA.

Five different Eagles found the back of the net as Emory won its sixth consecutive season opener. The Eagles controlled possession for the majority of the game as well, finishing with a 31-5 final tally in total shots.

After not recording a goal in three contests in 2021 senior LJ Kolodge sought to remedy that early Thursday night, as she led off the off the scoring before most fans settled into their seats ash she put Emory in front 1-0 just 5:22 into the game. Sophomore Grace Reyer picked up the assist on the goal.

The Eagles tacked on two more scores in the opening half as senior Kylie Hall scored in the 12th minute before Reyer added to her stat line with a goal of her own at the 21:43 mark. Both goals were of the unassisted variety.

The score remained 3-0 until junior Mia Han increased the Eagles lead moments following the return from the halftime break. Freshman Michelle Davidson provided the finishing touches, registering in the final tally with just under five minutes left to play.

Next up for the Eagles will be a trip to Pacific Northwest as Emory is set to take on Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound over Labor Day Weekend. Kickoff against the Lutes is scheduled for 7:00 PM EDT.
