The No. 14 ranked Emory University women's soccer team throttled local rival Piedmont University to the tune of 7-0 Friday night at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

Six different Eagles found the back of the net in the season opener while sophomore Avery Thompson scored the first two goals of her career in the romp. The Eagles reached 50 shots in a game for the first time in a decade, outshooting the Lions by a 52-0 margin, with the 52 attempts representing the fifth-highest total in team history.

Graduate student Kylie Hall continued her ascent up the Emory women's soccer leaderboard, picking up where she left off from her historic 2022 season. Hall led the Eagles with a four-point performance, notching a goal to go along with two assists. She now stands one assist shy from tying Sylvia Ghani who recorded a program career record of 31 assists from 1994-97.

Newcomer Kaitlyn Nimmer posted a goal and an assist in her Emory debut while classmates Katie Hungness and Emily Woodall also recorded goals to start their Eagle careers. Rounding out the scoring was junior Claudia Schmidt, who tallied her second career goal with a buzzer-beating strike as the seconds dwindled in the first half. Seniors Emma Cornejo and Grace Reyer landed on the scoring column with assists on the night.

The Eagles will be back in action on Monday, hosting another in-state foe in Berry College in a Labor Day matinee. Opening kickoff from the WoodPEC is slated for 1:00 PM.
