Women's Soccer Draws Centre, 1-1, in NCAA Rematch

Women's Soccer Draws Centre, 1-1, in NCAA Rematch

The No. 19 ranked Emory University women's soccer team tied Centre College in a defensive battle Thursday night at the WoodPEC in Atlanta.

In a rematch of last year's NCAA Second Round matchup, the two south region rivals once again were squared even at the end of 90 full minutes. With the 1-1 draw, the Eagles moved to 4-1-1 while the Colonels now stand 4-1-3.

Centre's first and only shot of the opening half found the back of the net as Alexis Kronenthal sent a long-ranging shot over the leaping attempt of sophomore Sophia Garcia to give the visitors the one-goal lead just 5:12 into the contest.

The deficit was short-lived though as freshman Emily Woodall pulled the Eagles even with her second goal of the season in the 21st minute. Woodall corralled the pin-point feed from graduate student Kylie Hall, knocking it past the Centre keeper. Woodall was finally able to cash in for the Eagles after sophomore Avery Thompson and senior Grace Reyer both drilled the crossbar moments prior.

Emory controlled the possession for the remaining 70 minutes but could not put the go-ahead goal through. For the game, the Eagles outshot the Colonels by a 31-4 margin and had 16 shots on frame.

Emory will wrap up the month of September on Tuesday when it travels to Sewanee for an early evening contest starting at 5:00 PM.
