2006-07 Women's Swimming & Diving Season Recap

The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving team successfully combined a mix of veteran experience with a talented core of young swimmers to produce the team's sixth-consecutive top-three finish in the nation during the 2007 season.  The Eagles' swimmers registered 295 points at the NCAA Division III Championship meet, good for a third-place national finish out of 51 eligible teams.

The Eagles recorded 25 All-America certificates and eight All-America honorable mentions, with two freshmen, Ruth Westby and Leigh Psaris, paving the way for the team.  Westby recorded a team-best seven All-America certificates, three from individual events and four from relays.  Psaris recorded two second-place finishes, three third-place finishes and one fifth-place finish en route to earning her honors.  Meanwhile, senior Jamie Lawler earned four All-America certificates, bringing her final career total to 14, while classmate Sarah Nicholson earned her sixth and seventh career national honors at the meet.  In addition, sophomore Tess Pasternak earned multiple All-America certificates for the second-consecutive year.

Emory's dominance in the University Athletic Association (UAA) continued in 2007, with the Eagles winning their ninth-consecutive conference title at the annual meet.  Emory recorded five individual champions, as well as the championship 200-yard freestyle relay team, during the three-day event.  Leigh Psaris was named the UAA Rookie of the Year after winning both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly, becoming the Eagles' only multiple individual-event UAA champion.  Emory totaled 36 all-conference honors at the meet.

During the course of the regular season, Emory compiled a 9-5 record in dual meets, although all five losses came against Division I opponents.  The Eagles finished first at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational, and sixth at the Miami Invitational (against mostly Division I competition).  Psaris and Westby were the Eagles' top-two scorers during the year, with Psaris registering 515.75 points, and Westby scoring 410.50.
