Emory University freshman McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg finished first in two events and recorded an NCAA ‘B’ cut time during the Eagles’ dual meet against Division I Georgia Tech on Saturday. Newsum-Schoenberg won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.65, good for an NCAA ‘B’ cut. She also claimed an event victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing first with a time of 10:23.96, the second-fastest Emory time of the season in the event. She rounded out the meet by swimming the second leg of the Eagles’ 200-yard freestyle ‘D’ relay, swimming a split of 24.96 seconds, the fastest on the relay, and helping the team to an overall time of 1:42.04. Newsum-Schoenberg and the top-ranked Eagles fell just short of upsetting the Division I Yellow Jackets, losing 156 – 143.
