Emory University wrapped-up competition at the Arena Pro Swim Series at Austin on Saturday with another strong slate of performances at the meet.
Junior Andrew Wilson led the way with a fifth-place finish in the finals of the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:02.51, good for an Olympic Trials qualifying mark. The performance came after he swam a time of 1:03.17 in the morning session, finishing ninth in the preliminaries of the event.
Sophomores Mitchell Cooper (16:29.80) and Christian Baker (16:33.72) finished 22nd and 26th, respectively, in the 1,500-meter freestyle, while senior Hayden Baker finished 32nd in the preliminaries of the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:09.34. Senior Eric Ruggieri added a time of 1:08.24 in the 100-meter breaststroke, good for a 40th-place finish.
For the women, senior McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg placed 31st in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:22.10, and 37th in the 800-meter freestyle with a mark of 9:24.25. Junior Elizabeth Aronoff finished 37th in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:14.62) and 75th in the 200-meter individual medley (2:30.82), while senior Nancy Larson claimed 43rd in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:25.17. In the 100-meter backstroke, junior Ellie Thompson finished 29th (1:05.28), while sophomore Claire Liu finished 59th (1:07.09).
Emory will return to action next weekend, when the Eagles host Darton College and the University of West Florida on Saturday, January 24th at 1:00 PM at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
