Swimming & Diving Celebrates Senior Day with Sweep of Centre

The Emory University swimming & diving teams celebrated Senior Day with a sweep of Centre College Saturday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

The Eagles returned from the holiday break to claim wins in every event contested on the afternoon. Prior to the start of the meet, Emory honored its senior class with a special ceremony poolside.

For the women, the Eagles saw 11 different swimmers touch first with junior Savannah Sowards leading the way with two solo victories in 100 Butterfly (57.07) and 200 Backstroke (2:04.98).

Seniors Clio Hancock, Taylor Leone, Allie Dixon and Cailen Chinn snagged wins with Hancock in the 1000 Freestyle (10:30.89), Leone in the 50 Freestyle (24.11), Dixon in the 200 Butterfly (2:07.57) and Chinn in the 100 Freestyle (53.43).

Rounding out the individual winners for the Emory women were sophomore Megan Jungers in the 100 Backstroke (57.23), junior Anna Glowniak in the 100 Breaststroke (1:06.67), freshman Sarah Daly in the 200 Freestyle (1:56.96), junior Allie MacMillan in the 200 IM (2:10.50), junior Nina Turcanu in the 500 Freestyle (5:14.01) and sophomore Fiona Arwood in the 200 Breaststroke (2:23.11).

The Eagles added a victory in the final event of the day with Leone, sophomores Penelope Helm, Leaya Ma and junior Julia Colizzo teaming to win the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:38.17.

On the men's side of competition, 11 different swimmers notched individual wins with sophomore Nicholas Goudie posting a pair of first-place efforts in the 100 Butterfly (50.68) and 100 Freestyle (46.19).

Two seniors came away with event wins with Colin LaFave touching first in the 50 Freestyle (20.96) and Jason Hamilton in the 200 Breaststroke (2:04.94).

Other Emory men winners were junior Lawrence Redmond in the 200 Backstroke (1:51.23), freshman Adam Braunschweig in the 100 Backstroke (51.41), sophomore Jake Meyer in 100 Breaststroke (56.97), sophomore Ryan Gibbons in the 1000 Freestyle (9:39.68), junior Pat Pema in the 200 Freestyle (1:41.77), freshman Zachary Zhao in the 200 IM (1:55.59), freshman Jeff Echols in the 200 Butterfly (1:52.93) and sophomore Kory Kimura in the 500 Freestyle (4:43.01).

The quartet of Goudie, seniors Tyler Russell, Hwa Min Sim and freshman Dylan Yin concluded the day's action with a win in the 200 Freestyle Relay with their time of 1:26.03.

In addition, the Eagles registered a victory in the first event of the meet as LaFave, Hamilton, Leone and Ma joined together to win the 200 Mixed Medley Relay at 1:38.34.

Emory is back in the pool next Saturday, January 22 with a tri-meet in Pensacola, FL with West Florida and Delta State.
