#2 Women’s Tennis Takes Two on Wednesday; Will Play Temple on Friday

The Emory University women’s tennis team, ranked second in the nation, ran its winning streak to eight matches on Wednesday with a 9-0 victory over Coe College, and a 7-2 win against the University of Rochester in Orlando, FL.

Playing without their top singles player and the defending NCAA Division III singles champion, Lorne McManigle, the Eagles did not skip a beat in their first match win over Coe.  The Eagles swept through all the doubles and singles matches, including perfect 6-0, 6-0 wins for senior Sara Vrabec in the fourth singles match, and for freshman Amanda Wikman in the fifth-singles contest.

Still without McManigle in the second match, the Eagles were able to dispatch with Rochester 7-2.  The Eagles took an early 3-0 lead after doubles play, getting an 8-4 win in the first match from Sabra Rogers and Tshema Nash, an 8-3 win in the second contest from Jordan Wylie and Lindsay Reidenbach, and an 8-2 win in the third-doubles contest.  In singles play, Emory received straight-set wins from Wylie in the second match, Reidenbach in the third, Wikman in the fourth and Emily Wein in the sixth.

Emory remained undefeated with a 10-0 record against NCAA Division III opponents this season with the victories on Wednesday.  The Eagles are now 12-2 overall, while Coe dropped to 9-3 on the season, and Rochester fell to 5-3.

The Eagles also announced on Wednesday that they will be playing an additional match on their Orlando spring break trip, as Emory will face NCAA Division I institution Temple University on Friday at 11:30 AM.  The Owls are 3-6 overall this season, and will be the first Division I opponent for the Eagles the season.
