Emory’s Clark, Wylie & McManigle Selected to Compete at the NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament

Emory’s Clark, Wylie & McManigle Selected to Compete at the NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament

Emory University freshman Gabrielle Clark and sophomore Jordan Wylie were each selected as part of the field of 32 for the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles Championships.  In addition, Clark will play with senior Lorne McManigle in the 16-pairing Doubles Championships.

The team championship will be held May 24-26, and the singles and doubles championships will be held May 27-29. The finals will be held at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont, CA.

The selection of teams and individuals for the championships was based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Clark is currently the top-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region, and has an overall record of 22-5 in singles play this season.  She is also a perfect 12-0 against NCAA Division III opponents this spring, including an 11-0 mark in the fall and spring against other players selected for the NCAA Singles Tournament.  Earlier in the year, Clark claimed a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win over Julia Browne of Tufts University, the reigning NCAA Division III Singles Champion.  She was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year, earning first team honors this season.

Wylie will enter the tournament as the region's third-ranked singles player, after going 17-8 this season, including a 6-2 mark during tournament play in the fall.  Earlier in the year, she earned all-UAA first team honors for her work on the Eagles' second doubles team.  This will be Wylie's first career appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Since pairing together for the first time on March 15th of this season, Clark and McManigle have gone 11-4 as the Eagles' first doubles team.  The duo has won six of their last seven matches against NCAA Division III opponents, and is currently ranked fourth in the Atlantic South Region.  Last season, McManigle teamed with Zahra Dawson to finish second at the NCAA Doubles Championships.  This is the third NCAA Tournament appearance for McManigle, and her second in the doubles draw.

The Eagles will be in action at the NCAA Division III Team Championships on Friday at 2:00 PM CST, facing the winner of the opening round match between Principia College and Agnes Scott College after a first-round bye.
