Emory University women's tennis senior captain Madison Gordon has been named the University Athletic Association's Athlete of the Week for her play this past weekend in three matches held in Middlebury, Vt. This marks the first time in her career she has been chosen as the UAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week.
Gordon went 3-0 in singles play for the Eagles against three nationally ranked opponents. She won the no.6 singles match against #7 Middlebury 6-2, 6-0 before closing out the weekend by winning the no.5 singles match against both #26 Skidmore, 6-0, 6-0, and #6 Bowdoin 6-3, 6-1. The New York, NY native has now won an impressive 15 consecutive singles matches to improve to 21-2 overall on the season including a perfect 15-0 record in dual matches. Emory went 2-1 in the three matches, falling to #7 Middlebury 5-4 before defeating #26 Skidmore 9-0 and #6 Bowdoin 8-1.
Gordon and the Eagles will be back in action this weekend in the 29th Annual University Athletic Association Championships in Orlando, Fla. Emory, the top seed in the tournament, will face #8-seed Rochester on Friday morning in the opening round match. The Eagles will be looking for their 27th conference title in program history.
