#1 Emory Women's Tennis Falls at Georgia Gwinnett College to Open Spring Season

The Emory University Women's Tennis program opened the spring portion of its schedule on Wednesday afternoon, falling to top-ranked and defending NAIA national champion Georgia Gwinnett College by a score of 6-3 in Lawrenceville.

The Grizzlies took a 2-1 lead in the match after taking two of the three doubles matches. Junior Bridget Harding and senior Katarina Su picked up the lone point for the Eagles, taking the first doubles match 8-5 over GGC's top doubles pairing in Chiara Di Salvo and Alyona Vasilyeva.

In singles play, senior Michelle Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez tallied match wins for Emory. Satterfield needed a third set but was able to post a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) victory at second singles. At third singles, Lopez trounced Di Salvo in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

"I am happy that we were able to hit a lot of our goals," said Head Coach Amy Bryant after the match. "It was great start of the season."

The Eagles will be back in action next Tuesday, February 21st, as they host Brenau University. Play from the Woodruff PE Center is set to begin at 3:00 PM.
