No.-1 Emory Women's Tennis Falls to Division I Coastal Carolina in Hard-Fought Match

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team battled Division I Coastal Carolina in a dual match Saturday afternoon, falling just shy of the victory as the Chanticleers earned the hard-fought 4-3 decision. CCU improved to 14-4 on the year with the win while the Eagles dropped to 6-3 overall.

"We had another great match with Coastal" Head Coach Amy Bryant stated following the match. "Every point was competitive and it will really help us to improve moving forward."

In doubles action, Coastal Carolina opened the match with a win on court one as Marie Babayan and Sara Bonder edged out junior Bridget Harding and senior Katarina Su. Emory responded as seniors Michelle DeMeo and Paula Castro were victorious on court three before senior Michelle Satterfield and Daniela Lopez closed out a win on court two to earn the doubles point for the Eagles. All three matches were decided by identical 7-5 decisions.

The Chanticleers answered in singles play, registering four consecutive wins to seal the match. Lopez was bested 6-0, 6-0 in third singles before Castro fell at sixth singles 6-4, 7-6 (4). At first singles, Harding dropped a 6-4, 7-6 (3) decision to Rylie Cox while Su was edged out at fourth singles, falling to Bondar 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

The Eagles collected victories in the final two singles matches to provide the 4-3 final margin. Satterfield needed a third set but was able to defeat Natalie Wall 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (3). At fifth singles, senior Melissa Goodman was also taken to a third set but earned the 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7) triumph over Romaine Delay.

Emory will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a dual match against Division I Charleston Southern University. First serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
