Women's Tennis Dominates Centre for Third Straight Win

The Emory University Women's Tennis team dominated Centre University, 9-0, Saturday afternoon for the team's third straight victory.

The Eagles dropped just six points total in doubles play and saw all six singles matches decided in straight sets as the Eagles improved to 3-0 in the spring.

In doubles play, senior Daniela Lopez and freshman Emma Cartledge collected the 8-3 win on court win while the sophomore tandem of Defne Olcay and Katie Chang were 8-2 victors on court two. Freshmen Lauren Yoon and Jessica Fatemi rounded out the trio of doubles winners on court three, recording the 8-1 decision.

The Eagles breezed through singles competition with no match being closer than three points. Sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Chang both registered matching 6-0, 6-1 triumphs at first and fifth singles, respectively. At second singles, Lopez notched her first win of the spring with the 6-3, 6-2 win while Yoon was a 6-2, 6-0 winner on court three. Cartledge and classmate Christina Watson also notched single wins with Cartledge earning the 6-2, 6-1 decision at fourth singles and Watson blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles.

Emory will be back in action next weekend at the National ITA Indoor Championships as the team looks to win its third straight indoor title. The Eagles will oppose host Sewanee in the opening round at 4:00 PM EST.
