Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico & Katie Chang Selected as UAA Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week

Emory University women's tennis seniors Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Katie Chang were named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week after capturing the NCAA Division III doubles national championship and leading the Eagles to their eighth national championship in team history this past week in Chattanooga, TN.

Gonzalez-Rico and Chang went 7-0 in doubles and were crowned the NCAA doubles national champions, winning the all-Emory final Sunday evening. The pairing went 3-0 at the No. 1 position during the team portion of the week including an 8-1 victory over Wesleyan's Venia Yeung and Katie Fleischman in the national title match. At the individual championships, the duo dropped just two sets in four matches to as they won the first doubles title for the Eagles since 2004 and fifth in program history.

In addition, Gonzalez-Rico was stellar in singles during the week, going 6-1 overall including a 3-0 record at the No. 1 position as well as advancing to the national semifinals in the singles competition at the individual championships. She did not drop a set during the team portion of the week, including a 6-0, 6-1 win over Wesleyan's Venia Yeung in the national title match.

This marks the 13th career weekly award for Gonzalez-Rico and second this season while this is Chang's third weekly honor for her career.
