Women's Tennis Handles Brenau at Home, 9-0

After an exhibition match with Kennesaw State on Saturday, the Emory University women's tennis team officially opened their spring season with a 9-0 victory over Brenau University Sunday morning in Atlanta.

The Eagles had a strong showing across the lineup as the team handled the Golden Tigers in the seven matches that were contested.

The match began with senior Emma Cartledge and freshman Xuanjin Li posting an 8-2 win at the first doubles spot while senior Jessica Fatemi and freshman Eliza McPherron teamed for the 8-0 whitewash at the second doubles position. With Brenau travelling with only five players, the team had to succumb points at third doubles as well as sixth singles.

Emory saw all five singles matches finish in straight sets as the Eagles closed out the sweep. McPherron and Fatemi were successful on the top two courts with McPherron turning in a 6-2, 6-0 decision and Fatemi winning 6-2, 6-2. At the third and fourth singles lines, juniors Alexa Goetz and Stephanie Shulman recorded identical 6-0, 6-1 triumphs. Sophomore Sam Falcon rounded out the Emory winners as she registered a 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory at fifth singles.

The Eagles return to the courts the first weekend in March as the team travels to Danville, KY to compete in the 2022 ITA National Indoor Championships March 4-6 hosted by Centre College.
