Women's Tennis Drops Match at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

For the second time in less than a week the Emory University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' women's tennis teams squared off in competition as the two teams met again Friday night on the courts of the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, CA.

Last Saturday it was the Eagles that got the better end of the Athenas, winning 6-3 in the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Championship. However, this time around it was CMS on the winning end of things, defeating Emory by a 7-2 margin. With the win, No. 4 ranked CMS improves to 5-2 overall while the loss drops the No. 2 ranked Eagles to 3-3.

The Athenas took two of three doubles points to open the match but senior Christina Watson and sophomore Ana Cristina Perez secured a point at the first position, winning 8-4.

In singles, CMS was victorious in five straight matches before junior Alexa Goetz ended the match on a positive note, pulling out a grueling 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 three set victory on court six.

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on No. 3 ranked Pomona-Pitzer at 2:00 PM PST.
