Women's Tennis Downs Sewanee, 7-2

The Emory University women's tennis team picked up a road win Sunday afternoon, knocking off regional foe Sewanee by a 7-2 margin.

The Eagles saw themselves in a 2-1 hole through doubles play with the lone point coming at the No. 3 position as freshman Eliza McPherron and senior Jessica Fatemi teamed up for the 8-6 victory.

Despite seeing Sewanee claim a pair of doubles matches, Emory stepped up in singles with a clean sweep across the six courts. Four of the singles victories came in straight sets with McPherron and senior Christina Watson securing wins at the top two lines by 6-2, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-2 scores. Fatemi and sophomore Ana Cristina Perez added convincing straight set wins on the four and five courts with Fatemi posting a 6-2, 6-1 win and Perez winning away 6-2, 6-0.

The final two points came at the third and sixth positions as juniors Stephanie Shulman and Alexa Goetz rounding out the match. Shulman was a 6-1. 4-6, 6-0 winner on court three while Goetz ended the match with her 6-3, 1-6, 10-3 victory.

The Eagles will be back home Saturday afternoon as they play host to DePauw University at 2:00 PM. Prior to the start of the match, the team will honor the graduating senior class with an on-court ceremony.
