Women's Tennis Blanks DePauw, 9-0, on Senior Day

The Emory University women's tennis team cruised past DePauw University Saturday afternoon, earning the 9-0 win on Senior Day at the WoodPEC in Atlanta.

Prior to the start of the match, the Eagles honored their four-member senior class of Emma Cartledge, Jessica Fatemi, Christina Watson and Lauren Yoon with a special on-court ceremony. Emory, now winners of two straight and three of the last four, improves to 6-5 with the win while the Tigers drop to 5-11 on the year.

The Eagles opened the match with dominating play at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots, going 8-0 on both courts in under 30 minutes. Cartledge and Stephanie Shulman were the first to finish on the No. 2 line with Yoon and Alexa Goetz quick to follow. The Eagles concluded the doubles sweep on court one as Watson and Ana Cristina Perez won the final five games to win by the 8-4 margin.

In singles, Yoon picked up the first point as she won by retirement after leading in the first set 5-0. Shulman and Fatemi finished soon after with strong showings at the fourth and fifth singles positions. Shulman was a 6-1, 6-0 winner on court four while Fatemi did not drop a game in the 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing.

The winning continued with the top three courts all finishing in straight sets. Cartledge took care of business at second singles 6-1, 6-0 prior to Watson securing her own 6-1, 6-1 win on court three. Freshman Eliza McPherron round out the action, recording her 6-3, 6-2 triumph at the No. 1 line.

The Eagles are next weekend before taking on three straight NESCAC opponents the weekend of April 15-17, starting with Amherst on Friday, April 15th, at 4:00 PM.
