Three From Emory Women's Tennis Selected to NCAA Individual Championships

The Emory University women's tennis team saw three members selected to the NCAA Individual Championships as the selections were announced Wednesday evening on NCAA.com.

Freshman Eliza McPherron will make her individual debut at the NCAA Championships as she will represent the Eagles in the 31-player singles draw. In the doubles field, senior Christina Watson and sophomore Ana Cristina Perez will compete for the Eagles as they were one of 16 doubles teams selected.

McPherron currently leads the team with 21 singles victories this season, going 21-12 overall in her 33 matches. Her season was highlighted by a dominating stretch in the fall where she went 14-2 on her way to capturing the ITA Division III singles national championship.

The tandem of Watson and Perez joined forces in the spring and have recorded a team-best 11 wins, going 11-4 in 15 matches including a 7-4 record at the No. 1 position. This will be the second straight season Watson has participated in the doubles draw while this is the first-ever appearance for Perez at the NCAA Individual Championships.

The NCAA Individual Championships are set to take place May 27-29 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, FL.

The Eagles will begin the team portion of the NCAA postseason this weekend, hosting the opening rounds in Atlanta from May 13-15. Emory is set to take on the winner of Piedmont-Transylvania Saturday morning at 10:00 AM at the WoodPEC.
