Women's Tennis Trio Advance to ITA South Regional Semifinals

The ITA South Regional continued Saturday in Atlanta with three members of the Emory University women's tennis team advancing to the semifinals in the singles portion of the competition.

The day began with senior Stephanie Shulman, junior Ana Cristina Perez and freshman Iris Berman posting two wins to advance to Sunday's final four. Shulman opened the morning with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Rhodes' Agda Laasko before she defeated teammate Eliza McPherron in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. For Perez, she took down a pair of Sewanee Tigers, besting Ansley Carpenter and Emma Smith by identical 6-1, 6-2 scores. Berman had to go through a pair of teammates to join Shulman and Perez in the semis, defeating Emily Kantrovitz in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the round of 16 prior to besting doubles partner Alyssa Margolin 7-5, 6-2 in the quarters.

Shulman and Perez will be matched up in the one semifinal match while Berman will take on Sewanee's Alice Hall in the other semifinal. Both matches are scheduled to get underway at 8:00 AM Sunday morning with the singles final to follow soon after.

In doubles, Perez and freshman Alessia Martinez reached the semifinals with an 8-5 verdict against teammates Berman and Margolin however their run would end in the semis, falling to Sewanee's top-seeded team of Despriet and Petty by an 8-0 margin. In the bottom half of the draw, the Eagles remaining doubles tandem saw their run end as well in the quarterfinals as McPherron and Kantrovitz fell to Sewanee's Hall/Carpenter duo, 8-5.
