Emory Women's Tennis Competes at Georgia Southern Shootout

The Emory University women's tennis team was back in action this past weekend competing against several Division I programs at the Georgia Southern Shootout in Statesboro. Along with the Eagles, Troy, Chattanooga, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Mercer, Kennesaw State and host Georgia Southern were in attendance for the hidden dual formatted tournament.

In singles play, the Eagles collected seven wins across the 20 matches contested. Sophomore Eliza McPherron notched a straight set victory over Georgia Southern's Keranen 6-3, 6-3 as did freshman Iris Berman against Georgia State's Kumar 6-2, 6-4 and freshman Alessia Martinez against Mercer's McCray 6-3, 6-0. Fellow freshman Emily Kantrovitz rallied to defeat Georgia State's Neube 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 with classmate Izzy Antanavicius doing the same in her match against Georgia Southern's Ryan 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2. Senior Stephanie Shulman added a three-set win to her resume to round out the winners, defeating Troy's Amin 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Antanavicius was the lone Eagle to go 2-0 in matches as she picked up a win via retirement over Jacksonville State's Ramenskaja in her second match of the weekend.

In doubles, the Eagles finished the weekend out strong with a pair of wins from McPherron/Kantrovitz and senior Alexa Goetz/Antanavicius against teams from Troy by 6-4 margins.

Next up will be the ITA Cup from October 13-16 in Rome, Georgia where Shulman will represent the Eagles in the singles draw following her ITA Regionals singles titles last month.
