Women's Tennis Posts 8-1 Win Over SCAD in Spring Home Opener

The Emory University women's tennis team was back on the courts for its home opener Friday afternoon, defeating SCAD on the WoodPEC Indoor Courts in Atlanta.

The Eagles dropped just one match on the day to even their spring record at 1-1 while the Bees slip to 3-3 following the 8-1 defeat.

Doubles action began inside just as both teams were finishing up their warmups on the outdoor courts. The storms did not slow down the Eagles as the team saw a pair of wins with senior Alexa Goetz and freshman Izzy Antanavicius recorded an 8-2 win on court two and on court three, sophomore Eliza McPherron and freshman Iris Berman were winners by an 8-4 count.

Emory continued with a clean sweep across the six singles matches with five coming via straight sets. Freshman Emily Kantrovitz picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at the second position with junior Ana Cristina Perez posting a 6-2, 6-4 win on the third spot. Freshman Ilayda Baykan had her first win career win with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph on court four.

On court five, McPherron secured a 6-3, 6-0 decision and on court six, Goetz earned a 6-1, 6-1 win. Senior Stephanie Shulman was pushed to a third set at the top line but was able to pull out the 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 victory.

Emory will continue its spring slate on Saturday, travelling to in-state foe Columbus State for a 1:00 PM start time.
