Women's Tennis Blanks Sewanee for Sixth Straight Win

The Emory University women's tennis team earned a statement win on Saturday, defeating No. 10 ranked Sewanee by a 9-0 count on the WoodPEC courts in Atlanta.

The win marked the sixth straight win for the Eagles as well as the fifth consecutive shutout as the No. 9 ranked Eagles improved to 7-3 while the loss dropped the Tigers to 6-5.

For the sixth straight match Emory secured the doubles sweep to open the match by a 3-0 margin. At the No. 1 position, freshman Emily Kantrovitz and junior Ana Cristina Perez were 8-4 winners while senior Alexa Goetz and freshman Izzy Antanavicius picked up an 8-3 decision on court two. Sophomore Eliza McPherron and freshman Iris Berman rounded out the sweep with their 8-5 victory at the third position.

In singles, the Eagles won handled in five and six matches with those decisions coming via straight sets. Berman was forced to a super third set but came away with the 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 win. McPherron had the most dominant victory on court four, winning by a 6-0, 6-2 count with senior Stephanie Shulman (7-5, 7-5), Kantrovitz (6-2, 6-4), Perez (6-3, 6-2) and Goetz (6-3, 6-1) added win for the Eagles.

Emory returns to the courts next weekend with a pair of NESCAC matches, going up against Tufts and Middlebury on Friday and Sunday.
