Women's Tennis Downs #8 Tufts, 7-2, for Seventh Straight Win

The Emory University women's tennis team picked up its second straight win over a top 10 opponent Friday afternoon, taking down No. 8 ranked Tufts University, 7-2, in Somerville, Massachusetts.

The Eagles opened the weekend up north with a convincing victory to improve to 8-3, the team's seventh straight win, while the Jumbos dropped their fifth match of the year.

Doubles action opened with a clean sweep for the Eagles, giving Emory the early advantage. Junior Ana Cristina Perez/freshman Emily Kantrovitz rolled to a 8-3 win on court one with senior Alexa Goetz and freshman Izzy Antanavicius doubling up their counterparts, 8-4, at the second position. Court three went to a tiebreak with sophomore Eliza McPherron and freshman Iris Berman earning the 8-7 (4) victory.

In singles, the Eagles secured straight set wins in three matches including at the top two spots. Senior Stephanie Shulman posted a 6-3, 6-2 decision with Kantrovitz adding a 6-0, 6-3 result on court three. Berman added another straight set win at the sixth position, recording the 6-1, 7-5 score.

Tufts registered wins at the fourth and fifth spots whereas Perez was one of two matches to go to a third set, winning 6-4, 6-7 (4), 11-9 on court three.

The Eagles will matchup against another top 10 team on Sunday, taking on No. 6 ranked Middlebury College at 10:00 AM in Vermont.
