Six From Women's Tennis Recognized on All-UAA Team; Kantrovitz Tabbed as Rookie of the Year

The Emory University women's tennis team saw a total of six student-athletes honored Tuesday afternoon as the All-UAA teams were announced by the league.

Senior Stephanie Shulman and freshman Emily Kantrovitz highlighted the Emory selections as both players were tabbed to the All-UAA First Team in singles. In addition, Kantrovitz became the latest Eagle to earn Rookie of the Year honors.

A pair of doubles teams made the cut for Second Team acclaim with the tandems of senior Alexa Goetz/freshman Izzy Antanavicius and sophomore Eliza McPherron/freshman Iris Berman earning recognition. Berman rounded out the league honors for the Eagles by earning Honorable Mention acclaim in singles.

Kantrovitz becomes the tenth player in team history to earn Rookie of the Year honors and the first true freshman since Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico in 2018. Kantrovitz has a strong rookie campaign, currently leading the team with 18 singles wins while going 14-2 this spring and 13-2 at the No. 2 position. She's 11-1 over her last 14 matches and earned one of the clinching match points against Sewanee on Sunday.

Shulman continues to rack up accolades in her senior season, making her second straight All-UAA team in single and first as a member of the First Team. While playing at the No. 1 spot this spring, Shulman is 9-6 with her latest win coming over the Tigers in the regional final. She is second on the team with 16 singles wins following a stellar fall season where she captured the ITA South regional title.

The two doubles teams on the All-UAA Second Team have shined this spring, combining for 28 of the team's 40 doubles wins in dual matches. The Goetz/Antanvicius leads the squad with 16 wins, going 16-9 overall and 14-5 at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. They are 4-1 this postseason including a 2-0 mark over W&L and Sewanee. Berman and McPherron debuted together this spring to go 14-3 at the No. 3 line and were on a run of 13-1 before a loss to the Tigers on Sunday.

Berman rounds out the selections with Honorable Mention honors for her play at No. 6 singles. She is third on the team with 14 wins, going 14-7 and carries an 8-3 mark this spring.

The Eagles' season continues this Sunday, May 14, in the national quarterfinals as they take on Wesleyan University (CT). The match is set to get underway at 12:00 PM at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
