Emory University senior Greg Decker broke his
own school-record time in the 10,000-meter run, and Alex
Robin, Alex Greenhouse, Lauren
Attiah, and the Eagles’ women’s 4x100-meter
relay team all recorded provisional qualifying marks as the Eagles
were in action at two meets this weekend.
The performances of Decker and Robin both came at the Dr. Keeler
Invitational, hosted by North Central College in Naperville,
IL. Decker recorded a provisional qualifying time of
30:55.94, becoming the first Eagle to record a time under 31
minutes in the event, and breaking his previous school-record time
of 30:55.94. Decker finished 10th in the
10,000-meter run, and was followed by teammate Paul
Winterhalter, who finished 18th in a time of
31:24.63.
Robin finished 12th in the 800-meter run, with a
provisional qualifying time of 1:52.92, a new personal best.
His mark currently places him 21st among all Division
III competitors in the event. Junior Jason
Campbell finished 31st in the event with a time
of 1:55.27.
Also competing for the Emory men at the meet were distance runners
Tommy Fyffe and Charles Meade,
who finished 21st and 26th in the 5,000-meter
run, respectively.
For the women at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, Rebecca
Flink and Natalie Fenn both fell just shy
of the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:13.00. Flink
finished 16th in a time of 11:13.88, while Fenn was
right behind her in 17th place with a mark of
11:14.13. Theresa Ford finished ninth in the
high jump (1.55 meters), Calley Edwards claimed
20th in the 1,500-meter run (4:48.33), and
Melanie Frank took 22nd in the
800-meter run (2:18.20).
The Eagles also sent a contingent of sprinters across town to
compete against mostly Division I competition at the Georgia Tech
Invitational. On the men’s side, senior Alex
Greenhouse improved on his provisional qualifying time in
the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 18th with a time of
52.72 seconds, the fourth-fastest mark by a Division III runner
this season. The Emory women’s 4x100-meter relay team
of Alicia Adams, Jasmine
McCullough, Hadiza Sa-Aadu and
Mary Crystal Spence finished 14th with
a time of 48.39 seconds, good for a provisional qualifying mark as
well. In addition, Lauren Attiah claimed
29th in the triple jump with a distance of 11.61 meters,
good for a provisional mark as well.
Spence, a senior, was also just three hundredths of a second short
of the provisional qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash, finishing
48th with a time of 12.33 seconds and just eight
hundredths of a second short of the provisional time in the
200-meter dash with a time of 25.33 seconds, good for
40th-place. She was followed in the 100-meter dash
by Sa-Aadu in 61st place (12.69 seconds) and Adams in
63rd place (13.05 seconds), while Sa-Aadu finished
45th (25.86 seconds) and Adams 47th (26.14
seconds) in the 200-meter dash.
The Emory women also had competitors in the women’s 100-meter
hurdles, as McCullough finished 35th with a time of
15.28 seconds, and Laura Lambie-Hanson took
38th with a mark of 15.68 seconds, and in the 400-meter
hurdles, as Lambie Hanson finished 33rd with a time of
1:06.30.
For the men, Greenhouse also finished
62nd in the 100-meter dash (10.96 seconds), while
Everett Bryant finished 45th (15.34
seconds), Fritz Hain 49th (15.52
seconds) and Steve Dry 51st (15.84
seconds) in the 110-meter hurdles. Hain also competed in the
400-meter hurdles, taking 37th place with a time of
55.23 seconds.
The Eagles will look to take advantage of their last opportunity to
qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field
Championships next week, as Emory will head back to Naperville, IL
for the Gregory Multi-Events and Invitational at North Central
College from May 18th – 21st.
