Crane Sets Indoor Mile Record at NYU D-III Challenge

Emory University freshman Stephanie Crane broke the school indoor record in the mile run, highlighting the Eagles' individual performances at the NYU Division III Challenge in New York, NY on Saturday night.

With only a limited number of competitors from the team in action, Crane's performance stood out, finishing third with a time of 5:01.92.  Her time bests former Eagle Angela Davie's previous school-record mark of 5:05.03, set at the 2005 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.  Even when adjusted to 5:02.82 for the banked turns on the track at the Armory Track & Field Center, Crane's time still ranks fourth among UAA competitors this season, and 20th among all Division III runners.

Emory junior Calley Edwards added a 12th-place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:19.29.  In the 800-meter run, freshman Marissa Gogniat claimed 10th place with a time of 2:26.01, while sophomore Emily Caesar finished 13th with a mark of 2:31.12.

The Eagles will return to the Armory Track & Field Center next weekend, this time with a full squad, for the UAA Championships on February 25th and 26th.
