Emory Track & Field Teams Finish Second at Mountain Laurel Invitational

The Emory University track and field teams competed at Sewanee’s Mountain Laurel Invitational on Friday with the both teams placing second in the team standings. The women scored a total of 115 points with the men tallying 106.

On the women’s side, freshman Brittany Haney notched an individual event win, taking first in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:10.46 and was second in the 100m Hurdles at 17.47.

The Eagles added second place efforts in four other track events with sophomore Emily Kastenberg in the 200m Dash (28.22), sophomore Rachel Shanahan in the 800m Run (2:31.73), sophomore Abby Durfee in the 1500m Run (5:17.01) and sophomore Christina Dwier in the 3000m Steeplechase (13:11.21). Kastenberg added a third place finish as well, posting a time of 13.62 in the 100m Dash.

In the field events, junior Ayriel Coleman turned in a second place showing in the triple jump, recording a finals mark of 10.84m.

For the men, senior Tyler Breeden finished first in the 3000m Run with a time of 9:14.76 to highlight the Eagles.

In addition, Emory saw five runner-up finishes at the meet, led by junior Fernando Cardozo in both the 100m (11.48) and 200m (23.22) Dashes, freshman Anderson Shew in the 3000m Run (9:17.60), freshman Graham Scott in the 110m Hurdles (18.71) and freshman Kieran Kelly in the 40m Hurdles (1:03.99).

Members of the Eagles will compete at Georgia Tech’s invitational on Saturday before turning their attention on the UAA Championships, hosted by Emory, on April 27th and 28th.
