Annika Urban Sets 5000m Run School Record at Flames Invitational

The Emory University track & field team sent a small contingent of athletes to the Flames Invitational this past weekend, held by Lee University in Cleveland, TN.

Annika Urban highlighted all Emory members at the two-day meet as she established a new school record in the 5000m Run Friday afternoon. Urban posted a time of 17:14.41 which eclipsed the previous record of 17:15.66 set by Tess Gallegos back in 2012.

Other top times by the women’s team were turned in by Lauren Cunild in the 1500m Run (4:43.13) and Shannon Marsh in the 10000m Run (38.34.33).

For the men’s team, Spencer Moore recorded the eighth-fastest time in school history in the 3000m Steeplechase, placing ninth in the event with a time of 9:19.11. On Friday, Jack Whetstone registered the fifth-fastest time in team history in the 5000m Run as he crossed the finish line with a time of 14:38.99.

Two other season best marks were turned in by the men Friday afternoon with Thomas Davis running a 22.14 in the 200m Dash and Jacob Hedgepeth with a time of 3:56.55 to lead the Eagles in the 1500m Run.

Emory will be back in action next weekend with the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 16th and 17th.
