Women's Track & Field Places First at Thrills in the Hills Home Meet

The Emory University women's track & field team earned their second consecutive meet win of the outdoor season as they prevailed over the field at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open. The women posted a score of 131 that paced the field of 23 teams, surpassing second place Colby by 25 points.

On the track, junior Annika Urban, racing for the first time since her 12th place finish at the DIII cross country National Championships in November, posted a time of 10:03.80 in the 3,000m run which earned her a first place finish at the meet and now sits as the second fastest time in program history. Senior Bella Racette finished just behind Urban, registering a time of 10:04.44 which is the third fastest time in program history.

Junior Claire Evans posted a time of 1:04.46 in the 400m hurdle event, which sits at the second best time in the nation in the early stages of the season, to earn a first place finish. Sophomore Lily Taylor finished in first place in the 800m run with a time of 2:17.72 which sits as the fourth fastest time of any individual in the country this season.

The 4x400 relay team of freshman Mina Leopold, freshman Kylie Hanson, freshman Dashiel Tao Harris and junior Claire Evans recorded a time of 4:00.46 seconds which was good for a second place finish. Harris also competed in the 200m dash (25.77) and 400m dash (1:00.19) where she finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively to earn an additional five points for the Eagles. Freshman Kaya Binetti qualified for the final of the 100m dash where she finished in fifth place with a time of 12.48 seconds.

On the field, junior Hope Jackson improved upon her performance at the Emory Spring Break Classic by recording the ninth best distance in program history in the discus throw with a mark of 40.45m on Friday. Senior Alex Devaux registered a first place finish in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 47.29m which sits as the sixth best distance in the nation according to TFFRS. Freshman Sarah Fineman continued her hot start to the outdoor season finishing in third place in the shot put event posting a distance of 12.22m.

The Eagles return to the track next weekend for the UAB Spring Invitational in Birmingham, AL that is set to kick off the afternoon of Friday, April 1.
