Women Finish First, Men Take Second at Berry Field Day Invitational

The Emory University women's track & field team took home a resounding victory at the Berry Field Day Invitational in Rome, GA while the men picked up a second place finish.

The Eagles women's team brought home the top team honors thanks to a 159 point performance that outpaced the field by over 50 points during the two-day meet. Berry finished in second place with 104 points while Centre rounded out the podium with 96 points. The men finished in second place with 138 points trailing meet-winner Berry by just a single point.

On the field for the women, the duo of junior Hope Jackson and freshman Sarah Fineman showed out in the discus throw and shot put. In the discus, Jackson recorded a first place finish with a distance of 41.07m which is the fifth farthest in program history while Fineman finished in fourth (35.94m). In the shot put, the two flipped places as Fineman won the event posting a distance of 12.43m, tenth best in program history, while Jackson registered a third place finish (11.04m). Elsewhere on the field, senior Alex Devaux continued her winning ways posting a first place result in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.20m. Freshman Dana Catalano had the best day of her young collegiate career posting a distance of 36.45m in the javelin throw to win the event and sit with the 46th best distance in the nation according to TFRRS.

On the track for the women, junior Claire Evans recorded a second place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.17 which is also the 13th best time in the nation to this point in the season. Senior Hannah Lansberry recorded her first individual event win of the season with a time of 1:00.18 in the 400m dash. Senior Lauren Cunlid crossed the finish line in 2:19.21 in the 800m run, good for a second place finish while teammate Lauren Anshen finished not far behind in fourth posting a time of 2:24.01. The 4x100 relay team consisting of sophomore Ella Lavelle, freshman Mina Leopold, freshman Dashiel Tao Harris and freshman Kaya Binetti raced to a second place finish recording a time of 48.83 which is good for 35th in the nation.

On the track for the men, the Eagles had the top six finishers in the 1,500m run with sophomore Scott Masterson pacing the field with his time of 3:53.57. Masterson's time is the ninth fastest in program history and is the 24th fastest time in the nation. Freshman Jack Petkash (3:54.55), junior Justin Pecore (3:55.06) and senior Jacob Hedgepeth (3:55.07) also finished with times that were good for top 50 finishes in the nation this season according to TFRRS.

Senior Tommy Davis competed in three events scoring in all three of them. Davis finished in 6th in both the 100m dash (10.97) and 200m dash (22.07) while the 4x100 relay team of Davis, freshman Sam Ryba, graduate student Liam Fost and freshman Jackson Price finished in third place registering a time of 41.95 seconds. Emory finished with the top three runners in the 800m run with freshman Marcus Cheema leading the way with his 21st best time in the nation of 1:53.75.

On the field for the men, sophomore Kenya Sei (50.91m) and junior Michael Tiffin (50.28m) finished in second and third place, respectively with both of their distances finishing in the top 10 in program history, seventh for Sei and eighth for Tiffin. Senior Chris Jernigan earned a third place finish in the javelin throw event on the merits of his 50.50m distance. Freshman John Zhai posted a distance of 6.29m in the long jump event for a fourth place finish.

The Eagles will take part in the UAA Outdoor Championships next weekend, as the two-day meet, hosted by WashU in St. Louis, MO, is set to get underway on the afternoon of Saturday, April 23rd.
