Track & Field Turn in Strong Showings at Torrin Lawrence Memorial

The Emory University track & field team began the home stretch of the outdoor season this weekend putting forth a solid performance in Athens, GA at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial.

On the field for the women, junior Hope Jackson continued on her dominant run this season posting a fifth place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 42.13m. Jackson's 42.13m mark is the second best in program history and sits as the 25th best mark by an individual this season according to TFRRS. Freshman Sarah Fineman picked up from where she left off at the UAA Outdoor Championships posting a new season-best 12.68m distance in the shot put which is the fifth farthest in program history.

In the track events, sophomore Lily Taylor registered a seventh place finish in the 800m run with a new personal record of 2:17.18. In the 400m dash, freshmen Mina Leopold and Kylie Hanson finished back-to-back to finish in 11th and 12th place with times of 59.45 and 1:00.25, respectively. The 4x100 relay team consisting of sophomore Ella Lavelle, senior Jessica Barbarosh, freshman Dashiel Tao Harris and freshman Kaya Binetti registered a rock-solid fifth place finish crossing the finish line in 47.90 seconds. The four ladies who competed in the 4x100 relay also competed in the 100m dash with Binetti pacing the team with her time of 12.42 seconds.

For the men, the 4x100 team of freshman Sam Ryba, senior Thomas Davis, graduate student Liam Fost and freshman Jackson Price followed up their impressive showing at the UAA Outdoor Championships with a second place finish and a time of 41.34 seconds, the fourth fastest time in program history. Price impressed in the 200m dash as well crossing the finish line in 21.59 seconds to finish in 12th place against primarily Division I competition. Davis and Ryba competed in the 100m dash finishing with times of 10.93 and 11.26 seconds, respectively. Elsewhere on the track, senior Graham Scott registered an 11th place finish after posting a time of 56.81 seconds in the 400m hurdles.

On the field for the men, graduate student Maxwell Prizant set a new personal record and the fourth best mark in program history after posting a height of 4.52m in the pole vault whereas junior Michael Tiffin recorded a strong effort in the hammer throw, posting a distance of 48.81m for a sixth place finish. Senior Chris Jernigan added a top-performance in the javelin, recording a distance of 49.21m.

The Eagles will be back in action Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14 for the NCC Last Chance meet in Naperville, IL hosted by North Central College.
