Urban Makes History; Women in Third Through First Day of UAA Indoor Championship

The Emory University women's indoor track & field team sits in third place through one day of competition at the UAA Indoor Championships in Waltham, Massachusetts and have turned in two All-UAA performances.

The No. 17 ranked Eagles sit in third place having accumulated 28.66 points with five of the 16 events having been scored thus far. The No. 3 ranked Chicago Maroons sit atop the podium through one day of competition having racked up 71 points while the No. 2 ranked WashU Bears are in second having notched 41 points through the competition so far.

Senior Annika Urban continues to further cement herself as one of the greatest to ever don an Eagles uniform as she earned yet another All-UAA honor this time in the 5,000m run which she won with a time of 16:55.37. Urban's time established a new UAA Indoor Championship record, besting the old record set by Lucy Cheadle in 2013 by nearly ten seconds. This marks Urban's first All-UAA indoor honor of her illustrious career.

Graduate student Nyjah Willis continues to shine in her debut season with the Eagles as she established the program record in the weight throw as she won the event with a distance of 16.27m. This marks the second year in a row an Eagle had taken home the UAA title in the weight throw event as Alex Devaux was the indoor champion in the event for Emory last year.

Competing in the preliminaries, junior Clementine Bodus qualified for the final in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.96 seconds which marks the sixth fastest time in program history. Sophomore Audrey Johnson qualified for the final in both the 60m and 200m dash as she recorded times of 7.72 seconds and 25.54 seconds, respectively.

Sophomores Dashiel Tao Harris (58.83) and Paige Murdock (1:00.94) both qualified for tomorrow's finals as they finished third and eighth, respectively in the 400m dash.

Competing alongside Urban in the 5,000m run, sophomore Liesl Scherrer (17:57.67) and junior Julia Danko (18:00.24) finished back-to-back in scoring position as they combined to score three points for the Eagles.

Senior Ticia King and sophomore Alexandra Feurer matched each other as they both logged a height of 3.13m in the pole vault which saw them finish tied for eighth. Sophomore McKaley Yost garnered a point for the Eagles as she turned in an eighth place finish in the long jump after she registered a distance of 5.01m. Senior Hope Jackson turned in the final point of the day on the field for the Eagles as she notched a distance of 14.02m in the weight throw to finish in eighth place.

Competing in the DMR, the team of senior Shana Fitzmaurice, Murdock, freshman Payton Sullivan and sophomore Elle Haushalter crossed the finish line in a time of 12:41.00 to end the race in sixth place.
