Track & Field Sweeps Emory Spring Break Classic

The Emory University outdoor track & field team recorded team wins for both the men and women at the Emory Spring Break Classic on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia.

The men led the meet wire-to-wire as they recorded 158 points to win the meet, nearly doubling the next closest teams total. Finishing in second was Hope who tallied 86.5 points while Berry rounded out the podium with a score of 68.

After sitting in second place after day one, the women rallied, registering 199 points for the meet to win their first outdoor meet of the season. Hope finished in second place having accumulated 164 points while Colby finished in third notching 69 total points.

Competing on the track for the men, the 4x100m relay team of sophomore Sam Ryba, senior Tommy Davis, freshman Henry Brandstadter and sophomore Jackson Price had a stellar performance, turning in a time of 41.40 seconds which is the eighth best time in program history. Also recording a win in a relay event was the team of senior Andrew Pahnke, senior Justin Pecore, sophomore Jack Petkash and senior Spencer Moore who won the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:54.10.

For the individual men on the track, junior Dawit Dean recorded his first outdoor win of the year in the 800m run as he crossed the finish line in a time of 1:53.50, the second fastest time in Division III this season. Junior Spencer Watry finished in fourth in the 400m dash after registering a time of 50.42.

On the field for the men, freshman Steven Ditelberg continues to impress in his debut season as he recorded a second place finish in the pole vault after reaching a height of 4.15m.

Competing on the track for the women, the 4x100m relay team of sophomore Maura Dianno, sophomore Dashiel Tao Harris, junior Clementine Bodus and sophomore Audrey Johnson recorded the first relay win of the outdoor season as they recorded a time of 48.17, the third fastest time in the nation this season. Also showing out in the relay events was the 4x800m relay team of sophomore Jenna Daly, senior Shana Fitzmaurice, junior Lucy Hansen and sophomore Savannah Haushalter who came in second place after logging a time of 9:55.98.

In the individual track events for the women, Johnson came in third place in the 100m dash final after recording a time of 12.17 seconds, the fastest time in the early aughts of this Division III season. Junior Libby Ranocha continues to excel as she placed third in the 400m dash after notching a time of 57.58 seconds. Sophomore Elle Haushalter won the 3,000m run after recording a time of 10:54.17.

On the field for the women, sophomore Sarah Fineman notched a third place finish in the shot put as she threw a distance of 11.91m, the third farthest distance in the nation this season. Sophomore Caroline Hansen leapt a distance of 10.67m in the triple jump, the eighth farthest in Division III this season, which was good for a third place finish in the event.

The Eagles are back on campus next weekend for the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open in Atlanta as Emory plays host to an outdoor meet for the second consecutive weekend.
