Women's Track & Field Lands in Fourth After One Day of UAA Championship

Through one day of the UAA Championships in Chicago, the Emory University women's track & field team sits in fourth place with 14 events left to be scored.

The No. 8 ranked Eagles logged 28.50 points in the first day of competition which is good for fourth place at the conference championships with seven events having been scored thus far. In first place is No. 4 Chicago who notched 101.50 points on Saturday while No. 3 WashU holds down the silver medalist position with a score of 72.50 points.

The Eagles finished just out of All-UAA position in multiple events, placing fourth in four separate events. On the field, graduate student Nyjah Willis hit a distance of 45.75m good for fourth place in the hammer throw. Also placing fourth was senior Ticia King who logged a height of 3.25m in the pole vault. Also competing in the pole vault was sophomore Alexandra Feurer who placed sixth after registering a height of 3.10m. The final scoring competitor on the field for the Eagles was senior Hope Jackson who notched a distance of 11.64m in the shot put which placed her in fifth.

On the track the 4x800 relay team of freshman Madison Tiaffay, sophomore Michelle Mittaz, Senior Shana Fitzmaurice and junior Lucy Hansen logged a time of 9:36.20 which landed them in fourth place and with five points for the Eagles. Also competing on the track was sophomore Savannah Haushalter who registered a time of 11:45.84 which landed her in fourth place at the meet. Closing out the evening for the Eagles, Graduate student Claire Hu placed seventh in the 10,000m run after crossing the finish line in a time of 39:33.92.

Competing in the preliminaries, the Eagles had 14 different athletes qualify for tomorrow's finals in six different events. Placing first in the 100m dash sophomore Audrey Johnson qualified for tomorrow's final by virtue of her time of 12.27 seconds. Also qualifying for the 100m dash final was sophomore Kaya Binetti who turned in the fifth fastest time at 12.46 seconds. Johnson (25.79) and Binetti (26.04) each also qualified for the 200m dash final. The Eagles had three qualifiers for the 400m dash final: sophomores Dashiel Tao Harris (59.37), Mina Leopold (59.69) and Paige Murdock (1:00.04) who finished third through fifth in the preliminaries, respectively.

Senior Annika Urban qualified for the final in the 800m run after garnering a time of 2:13.30, the 15th fastest time in the nation this season and the second fastest time at the meet. Junior Libby Ranocha finished just behind Urban in the 800m run, turning in a time of 2:13.31 which is the 16th fastest time in the nation and third fastest at the meet. Competing in the hurdle events, junior Clementine Bodus qualified for both the 100m hurdle (14.58) and 400m hurdle (1:06.59) final as she registered the fourth fastest time at the meet in each event. Also qualifying for the final in both hurdle events was junior Amaya Martin with a time of 15.49 in the 100m hurdle and 1:07.46 in the 400m hurdle. 

The Eagles will conclude the UAA Championships tomorrow with 14 events left to be scored as Emory looks to move up the team standings and to garner a number of All-UAA performances.
