Women's Track & Field Takes Third at UAA Championships

The Emory University women's track & field team landed on the podium at the UAA Outdoor Championships in Chicago on Sunday as they finished in third place for the fifth consecutive year.

The No. 8 ranked Eagles tallied 135.50 points after all 21 events were scored which included ten total All-UAA performances and one individual UAA champion. No. 3 ranked WashU took home the UAA crown after posting a two-day total of 253.50 points while No. 4 ranked Chicago secured the silver medal with a total of 228.50 points.

Adding to her already vast trophy collection, senior Annika Urban registered a time of 4:28.67 in the 1,500m run to take home the gold and in doing so recorded a new UAA Championship record in the process. Urban's time also stands as the fourth fastest in program history and third best in the nation this season putting her securely in NCAA contention. Urban also picked up an All-UAA honor in the 800m run where she crossed the finish line in a time of 2:11.76 which placed her second in the race and with the seventh fastest time in the nation.

Junior Libby Ranocha finished just behind Urban in the 800m run with a time of 2:11.81 which saw her finish in third place and with All-UAA acclaim. Urban and Ranocha were part of the 4x400 relay team that earned All-UAA status along with sophomores Audrey Johnson and Dashiel Tao Harris as they came in second place after logging a time of 3:54.43 seconds which places them in NCAA contention with the 11th fastest time in Division III this season.

Harris earned another All-UAA honor in the 400m dash where she finished in third place, having turned in a time of 57.92 seconds. Johnson earned her second All-UAA honor when she crossed the finish line in 12.18 seconds in the 100m dash which was good for a second place finish. Johnson and Harris each earned their third and final All-UAA honors of the day as part of the 4x100 relay team along with junior Clementine Bodus and sophomore Kaya Binetti who placed second in the event as they recorded a time of 47.42 seconds, the 11th fastest time in Division III this season. Bodus landed an All-UAA honor in the 400m hurdles as well when she finished in the silver medalist position registering a time of 1:04.86.

On the field, sophomore Caroline Hansen earned All-UAA acclaim by virtue of her third place finish in the triple jump event where she leapt a distance of 10.94m. The final All-UAA honor of the day belonged to sophomore Dana Catalano who threw for a distance of 34.90m in the javelin throw which was the third best mark at the meet.

On top of her three All-UAA honors, Johnson scored in two other events as well, placing fourth in the 200m dash (25.70) and sixth in the triple jump (10.80m). Other scorers for the Eagles were sophomores Mina Leopold (59.56) and Paige Murdock (1:01.66) who placed fifth and eighth, respectively in the 400m dash. Sophomore Jenna Daly placed top eight in two separate events, ending in sixth in the 1,500m run (4:41.59) and seventh in the 800m run (2:18.77).

Binetti was one of eight Eagles to score in multiple events on Sunday as she finished in seventh place in both the 100m dash (12.50) and the 200m dash (26.04). On top of her All-UAA performance in the 400m hurdle, Bodus also showed out in the 100m hurdles finishing just outside of all-conference honors as she crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 14.83 seconds. Junior Amaya Martin was the final scorer for the Eagles on Sunday as she placed fifth in the 100m hurdle (15.22) and seventh in the 400m hurdle (1:08.93)

The Eagles will take nearly a month off before returning for their final regular season meet on May 17th when they will play host to the one-day Emory Final Qualifier with hopes of getting the student-athletes on the cusp of nationals into the big event.
