Track and Field Continues Outdoor Season with Strong Opening Day of Emory Thrills in the Hills

The Emory track and field teams hosted an event for the second straight weekend as they competed in the Emory Thrills in the Hills Invitational. The event was held at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.

The women dominated the 1500m race, with the Eagles seizing nine of the top 10 places of NCAA affiliated runners. Graduate student Brigid Hanley took the top spot, winning the race with a time of 4:32.71. Senior Lily Taylor finished second among NCAA runners just behind Hanley with a time of 4:35.33, setting a new personal best by nearly 10 seconds. Also finishing in the top-10 of NCAA runners in the 1500m was sophomore Madison Tiaffay (4:37.0, 4th), sophomore Luna McCauley (4:44.17, 5th), junior Liesl Scherrer (4:45.77, 6th), freshman Payton Fleming (4:49.5, 7th), freshman Cameron Gupta (4:49.57, 8th), senior Elle Haushalter (4:52.38, 9th), and freshman Elizabeth Csikai (4:54.62, 10th). Tiaffay, McCauley, Scherrer, Gupta and Haushalter all set new personal bests during the race as well.

The Eagles also saw success in the women's 400m hurdles, taking two of the top three spots. Junior Caroline Hansen finished second and set a new personal-best with a time of 1:06.95. Senior Amaya Martin turned in a solid performance as well, finishing third with a time of 1:07.58.

On the field, the women were led by senior Sarah Fineman, who finished second in the shotput with a distance of 11.86m. Freshman Linda Wang and graduate student Nikki Boon tied for fourth in the high jump event, both recording a height of 1.50m.

The men were led on the track by graduate student Ethan Thompson, who set a new personal-best in the 1500m with an event-winning time of 3:57.25. Thompson set the pace in the 1500m, but three other Eagles finished in the top-six. Junior Marcus Cheema finished second (3:58.56), freshman Kirin Karver finished fifth (4:02.72), while senior Tristan Olpin set a new personal-best time in his sixth-place finish (4:03.04). The Eagles saw a strong showing in the 200m on the men's side, with two runners finishing inside the top four. Junior Jackson Price turned in a third-place finish, clocking in at 21.86. Meanwhile, freshman Graham Greene took fourth with a time of 22.03.

Senior Kenya Sei once again led the way on the field for the Eagles, taking first among NCAA competitors in the hammer throw with a distance of 55.95m. Junior Geoff Point-Du-Juor and sophomore Henry Brandstadter tied for first in the high jump with a height of 1.80m. Graduate student Aiden Gilbert recorded a top-five finish in the long jump, finishing fourth with a distance of 6.35m.

The Eagles will wrap up the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet on Saturday, with events scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM at Morehouse College.
