Track and Field Competes at Last Chance Meets; Johnson Sets Another Program Record

The Emory University track and field program competed at two last chance meets this week traveling to the Life University meet on Thursday as well as the Lee Last Chance meet on Saturday afternoon. Senior Audrey Johnson highlighted the week breaking the program record in the 200m on Saturday.

On Thursday at the Life U meet, the men started things on the track with the group of graduate student Aiden Gilbert, juniors Sam Ryba and Jackson Price and sophomore Henry Brandstadter taking first in the 4x100 relay with a time of 40.75. Price and Ryba followed with fourth and fifth place finishes in the 200m respectively.

On the field, Brandstadter took first in the long jump with a distance of 7.26m with Gilbert taking second with a 6.98m mark.

For the women, the relay group of juniors Maura Dianno, Dashiel Tao Harris, Kaya Binetti and Johnson finished with a time of 46.95 in the 4x100 relay followed by a first place finish in the 100 hurdles from senior Amaya Martin. Johnson also took home a first place finish in the 400m running a 56.68. Also competing on the track was Harris and Binetti in the 200m taking first and third respectively.

On the field for the women was graduate student Nikki Boon who took a second place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.75m.

Johnson got things started on the track for the women at the Lee Last Chance meet finishing second in the 200m with a time of 24.22 to break the program record. Also on the track for the women was Harris who finished fourth in the 400m running a 56.16. Binetti finished things for the sprinters taking 11th in the 100m (12.20). 

Junior Madison Tiaffay and senior Lily Taylor both competed in the 800m taking 10th and 11th respectively while junior Liesl Scherrer finished things on the track for the women finishing eighth in the 5000m with a time of 17:39.83.

Boon also competed on Saturday taking 11th in the javelin throw with a distance of 35.80m.

Starting things off on the track for the men was Ryba running a 10.96 in the 100m followed by a ninth place finish in the 200m from Price. The Eagles saw three top-20 finishes in the 800m from seniors Spencer Watry (1:50.80, 12th) and Dawit Dean (1:51.67, 18th) and junior Marcus Cheema (1:51.83, 19th). Graduate student Ethan Thompson rounded out the individual events taking eighth in the 10000m with a time of 31.25.57. 

Finishing things on the track was the 4x100 relay group of Ryba, Brandstadter, Gilbert and Price finishing sixth running a 41.41.

On the field for the men was Brandstadter (7.27m) and Gilbert (6.79m) in the long jump taking first and ninth respectively. 

The Eagles will turn their attention to the NCAA Outdoor Championships beginning on Thursday, May 23 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
