2007 Athletes Of The Week

(Jan., '08) - Dani Huffman (San Diego, CA), a key member of the Eagles' volleyball team, was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Third Team.   

Huffman's play helped the Eagles to an overall record of 33-7 this season that included a University Athletic Association Tournament championship as well as the program's 12th straight NCAA Tournament appearance.  She played in a total of 123 games over the course of 39 matches and ranked second on the team and among University Athletic Association players with a .389 hitting percentage.  She recorded double-figure kills in 23 matches and her 3.20 kills per game mark was good for the No. 8 position among league players. A formidable defensive presence at the net, her 1.02 blocks per game paced the team and ranked her third in the UAA. 

An excellent student, she posts a GPA of 3.82 and is majoring in American Studies with a minor in French.


(Nov. 19) - Senior Janet Bunning led Emory with 17 kills while chalking up 13 digs against Washington University in the NCAA quarterfinals. The 5-foot-10 Bunning finished with the contest with a .325 hitting percentage (17-4-40) and also contributed four blocks. Her effort against the Bears marked her 24th match of double-figure kills and 12th double-double (kills/digs) of the season.

Janet closed out her career with 1,032 career kills, good for eighth place on the school's career chart, and 352 career blocks, fourth all-time at Emory.


(Nov. 12) -- Sophomore Alysse Meyer spearheaded a strong Emory effort this past weekend at the NCAA South Region and helped the Eagles to a championship effort. The 6-foot Meyer lead or tied for the team lead in kills in all three matches and finished the regional with a team-high 51 kills as well as a .430 hitting percentage (51-8-100) and seven service aces. After notching 11 kills against Piedmont in the opening game of the regional, Meyer chalked up a team-high 20 kills en route to a .576 hitting percentage (20-1-33) against Austin College. In the championship contest against No. 3-ranked Trinity, Meyer totaled a team-best 20 terminations, a .311 attack percentage and seven digs. Meyer has four matches of 20 or more kills this season.


(Nov. 4) - Junior Madison Robelen was a driving force on the Eagles' team over the weekend and helped the squad to a championship effort at the UAA Championships. The 5-foot-7 Robelen directed Emory's offensive attack with precision, doling out 180 assists over 14 games (12.8 apg). Her deft setting helped the Eagles post an impressive . 418 hitting percentage over the weekend as Emory brought home its second league crown in the past three seasons. In the championship match against No. 4-ranked Washington University, Robelen was outstanding, dishing out 65 assists, her sixth outing of 60 or more assists this season, while also contributing a season-high 21 digs in the five-game win. So far this season, Robelen has 1,616 assists to her credit, good for the No. 2 spot on the school's all-time seasonal chart. She is just seven assists shy of moving past the No. 1 mark of 1,622 held by Remley Dodge (2003). Career-wise, she has 3,023 assists to her credit and is No. 3 on the school's all-time ladder in that category.


(Oct. 29) - Sophomore Alysee Meyer earned a spot on the Emory National Invitational All-Tournament Team this past weekend as she helped the Eagles to wins in three of four matches. The 6-foot Meyer played in 14 of 15 games and registered a team-high 63 kills (4.50 kpg), leading the team in successful attacks in three matches, posting a hitting percentage of .381 (63-13-131), registering 16 digs and doling out five service aces. In a five-game marathon against Birmingham Southern, she paced the squad with a career-high 21 kills while recording an attack percentage of .429 (21-3-42) along with four digs. In a contest vs. No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern University, Meyer came up big again as she notched a team-leading 18 kills while chipping in six digs. Finally, she tied her second-high kills figure when she recorded a team-best 19 in a three-game triumph vs. Baldwin-Wallace College. She leads the squad with a 3.63 kills per-game average and has 16 matches of double-digit kills to her credit.


(Oct. 15) - Emory junior Maggie Baird turned in a solid effort in helping the Eagles to a 3-1 record at the UAA Round Robin II last weekend.  Playing in all 14 of the team's games over four matches, the 6-foot-1 Baird finished with a .430 hitting percentage (36-8-65) while coming up with a total of nine blocks (1-8).  Against No. 7-ranked Washington University, Baird totaled a season-high 16 kills (second high on the team) and four blocks. 


(Oct. 7) - Sophomore Alysse Meyer helped the Eagles to wins in three of their four matches at the Illinois Wesleyan Classic. Meyer played in 11 of 12 games over the weekend and led the Eagles in total kills with 49 (4.54 kpg), hit .296 (49-14-118), recorded 17 digs and doled out 10 aces.  Meyer turned in a pair of big efforts on the final day of action, chalking up a team-high 15 kills, along with five aces, in a three-game sweep of Millikin before registering a team-best 16 terminations and four aces against Hope College. 


(Oct. 1) -- Emory University junior Dani Huffman helped the Eagles to a 3-0 record in the UAA Round Robin this past weekend.  The 5-foot-11 Huffman hi 58.1 percent in the three matches and totaled 28 kills during the weekend.  She paced the squad in kills with 12 in matches against both Rochester and NYU.  Against the Violets of NYU she posted a blazing .800 hitting percentage (12-0-15) and finished with a match-high 10 blocks (4-6).  Emory stands 16-3 this season and was ranked No. 4 in last week's CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Poll.


(Sept. 24) -- Emory University senior Janet Bunning helped the Eagles to a championship crown this past weekend in the Emory Tournament.  The 5-foot-10 Bunning played in three of the team's four matches and posted double figures in kills in two contests while racking up a total of 38 kills, a hitting percentage of .455 and 30 digs.   Bunning recorded 21 kills, tying her second highest career total, and hit .741 in a three-game win over Washington & Lee.  Bunning's attack percentage in that match was the fifth-highest match total in Emory history.  In addition, her 21 kills represent the high-water mark by an Emory player this season.  In the championship match against Heidelberg College, Bunning notched 10 terminations and 12 digs, her third double-double of the year. 


(Sept. 18) -- Emory University senior Janet Bunning helped the Eagles to a 2-1 record at the Lee Invitational. On the final day of action, Bunning played in a total of 10 games and recorded 29 kills, hit . 406, came up with 20 digs and was credited with nine blocks. In a five-game win over Martin Methodist, Janet totaled 17 terminations and nine digs as the Eagles boosted their season mark to 9-3.


(Sept. 10) -- Emory University senior Courtney Rose enjoyed a big weekend in helping the Eagles to a 3-1 record and second place in the Emory Invitational. Rose played a total of 15 games and chalked up a team-leading 60 kills, hit a solid 34.9 percent (60-9-146) and chipped in 60 digs. The 5-foot-10 Rose paced the squad in kills in a 3-0 win against UT-Dallas (13 kills) and 3-1 triumph (15 kills) and was second on the squad in that category in matches against Rhodes (15) and Birmingham Southern (17). In the match vs. BSC, Rose led all players with a career-high tying 26 digs, her sixth outing of double figures this year. Rose's performance enabled her to claim a spot on the Emory Invitational All-Tournament Team.


(Sept. 3) -- Senior libero Maggie Ramm was named MVP of the Emory Classic after helping the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record that included wins in 12 of 13 games. Maggie played in all 13 games and totaled a team-high 54 digs (4.15 dpg), 13 assists and five service aces. Her stong defensive played helped Emory hold its four opponents to a combined 11.3 hitting percentage. Ramm accounted for a team-high 11 digs and three aces in a 3-0 triumph over Christopher Newport before tying for the team lead with 15 digs, while dishing out six assists, in a 3-1 victory over No. 11-ranked St. Thomas. Ramm also chalked up a match-high 22 digs in a 3-0 verdict against Puget Sound.
