The No. 1-ranked Emory University volleyball team turned in a
dominating performance in its final game of the Emory Classic
Saturday afternoon, claiming the championship after defeating
SUNY-New Paltz by a 3-0 score. The Eagles upped their record
to 5-0 overall after a 25-15, 25-5, 25-8 decision over New Paltz
who fell to 2-2.
After a tight first game, Emory blitzed New Paltz over the final
two sets, registering a total of 32 kills compared to five for the
visitors. Sophomore Jessica McAlvany continued her fine play
for Emory, hammering away for a match-high 16 kills while
registering an impressive 54.2 hitting percentage (16-3-24).
Junior Amelia McCall knocked down eight terminations while freshman
Breanah Bourque notched five kiils.
The Eagles finished with a 40.0 hitting percentage (47-9-95)
compared to New Paltz's -.025. Emory totaled 53 digs and was
paced in that category by sophomore Brannan O'Neill who came
through with 16.
