The No. 1-ranked Emory University volleyball team closed out a
successful opening day of action at the Emory Classic Friday
evening with a 3-0 triumph over the University of
Wisconsin-Platteville. The victory boosts the Eagles' record
to 3-0 while UW-Platteville falls to 0-2.
Junior Amelia McCall had the hot hand for Emory with a match-high
16 kills while finishing the contest with a 41.9 hitting percentage
(16-3-31). McCall also registered nine digs and doled out a
pair of service aces. Sophomore Jessica McAlvany contributed
to the offensive attack as she reached double figures for the third
straight match with 10 terminations.
Emory registered a 30.4 attack percentage (44-13-102) compared to
.050 percent (25-20-100) for the Pioneers. The Eagles enjoyed
a 47-39 margin in digs and were led in that department by sophomore
Brannan O'Neill's 14 saves. Emory also finished with an 8-4
edge in total blocks with sophomore Alexandra Wright posting
four.
Head Coach Jenny McDowell and her squad continue action in the
Emory Classic on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest against King
College and a 3:30 p.m. battle against SUNY-New Paltz.
