The No. 2-ranked Emory volleyball team ran its win streak to
eight matches on Friday as it posted a pair of victories on the
opening day of the Emory National Invitational Tournament.
The Eagles upped their overall won-lost ledger to 25-4 after coming
away with 3-0 victories over Birmingham Southern (25-13, 25-20,
25-13) and Maryville College (25-13, 25-10, 25-14).
In the contest against the Panthers of BSC, Emory hit a solid 30.9
percent (39-10—94) compared to the visitor’s mark of
.033 percent (20-17—90). The Eagles finished with a
49-41 edge in digs along with a 6-3 margin in total blocks.
Junior Jessica McAlvany led the offensive attack with 18 kills
while registering a glittering 57.1 hitting percentage
(18-2—28). Freshman Molly Landers totaled a team-high 13 digs
and sophomores Breanah Bourque and Alena Ransom aided in the
defensive effort with four block assists apiece.
Senior Amelia McCall, one of three four-year players to be
recognized on Senior Night turned in a fine all-around game vs.
Maryville, hitting 50 percent on the strength of nine kills and
chipping in 12 digs, her 13th double-double of the
year. Also being recognized as seniors this evening were Ana
Ramirez and Kelsey Krzyston. Ransom topped all players with
10 terminations and recorded a 53.3 attack percentage
(10-2—15). Natalie Schonefeld dished out 31 assists and
contributed seven digs. The Eagles rang up a 29.0 attack
percentage (44-15—100) as a team compared to the
Scotts’ -.049 percent (14-19—103).
Emory closes out the home portion of its regular-season schedule on
Saturday with a noon match vs. Randolph Macon and a 4:00 p.m.
battle against Washington & Lee.
