Emory Volleyball Win Streak Now at 21 Matches -- Eagles Top Piedmont College & Ohio Northern

The Emory volleyball team extended its winning streak to 21 matches Friday evening as it topped Piedmont College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19), and Ohio Northern University, 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-15).  The two wins boosted the Eagles' record to 22-1.

In the opener against the Lions of Piedmont, Emory recorded a .254 attack percentage (46-17—114) compared to the visitor's effort of -.058 (17-23—104).  The Eagles also enjoyed a decided 55-37 edge in digs.  Senior Amelia McCall topped the team's offensive attack with 12 kills and was aided in that department by classmate Jessica McAlvany's 10 terminations.  Junior Alena Ransom made the most of her hitting opportunities, blasting away for a .700 hitting percentage with seven kills and no errors in 10 attempts.   Senior setter Natalie Schonefeld doled out 37 assists and chipped in four digs.  Sparking the strong defensive effort was sophomore Molly Landers with 14 digs.       

Emory's offense was in high gear against Ohio Northern, as it hammered out a .519 hitting percentage (45-5—77) compared to the Polar Bears' mark of -.033 (16-19—90).  McCall once again topped the club with 15 kills, her sixth double-figure effort  in the past seven outings and 15th of the season.   Bourque totaled eight terminations en route to a .571 hitting mark (8-0—14) while McAlvany added seven kills to the cause.   The Eagles finished with a 30-22 bulge in digs, with Landers leading the team with eight, and also totaled a 6-1 advantage in total blocks

Emory has won its last 19 home matches and claims a 56-3 won-lost slate in games played at the Woodruff PE Center since 2008.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday (Oct. 8) with matches against Lynchburg College (noon) and Maryville College (4:00 p.m.) on the docket
