Emory Volleyball Posts Two Wins On Opening Day Of UAA Round Robin II

After seeing a 23-match win streak snapped earlier in the week, the No. 3-ranked Emory volleyball captured a pair of contests on the first day of action at the University Athletic Association Round Robin II in Rochester, NY.  The Eagles bested New York University, 3-0, in their opening match before registering a 3-0 verdict over Carnegie Mellon.  Emory now stands 26-2 overall, 5-0 in the UAA.

Senior Amelia McCall sparked the Emory effort on Saturday, coming away with a double-double in each match.  McCall led all players with 13 kills and 12 digs against NYU before notching 12 terminations and tying for match honors with 10 digs in the CMU match.  McCall hit .456 (25-4—46) in the two matches including a season-high .579 (12-1—19) against the Tartans of CMU. 

Senior Jessica McAlvany chipped in nine kills and hit a solid .412 (9-2—17) in the NYU affair while junior Breanah Bourque racked up seven successful put-aways along with five total (1-4) blocks.  Senior setter Natalie Schonefeld dished out 39 assists and contributed the six kills and eight digs.

The Eagles hit .480 (40-4—75) against CMU with Bourque complementing McCall's effort with eight kills en route to a .538 hitting percentage (8-1—13).  Schonefeld finished with 33 assists and six digs.

Emory continues UAA Round Robin II play on Sunday with a 10:00 am match vs. Brandeis and a 2:00 pm clash with No. 2 Washington University.
