Emory Volleyball Comes Away With A Pair Of Wins On Final Day Of UAA Round Robin II

The No. 3-ranked Emory volleyball team closed out the University Athletic Association Round Robin II on a solid note Sunday afternoon, posting a victory over Brandeis University before handing No. 2 Washington University its first setback, ending the Bears' 24-match win streak.  The Eagles boosted their overall record to 28-2 (7-0 UAA) following a 3-0 verdict over Brandeis (25-17, 25-10, 25-20) and a tight 3-2 decision over Wash U (23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 18-25, 15-12).

Emory finished the Wash U match with a .320 hitting percentage (59-12—147) compared to the Bears' .236 (63-20—182).  The Eagles held an 89-82 edge in digs while Wash U finished with a 10-5 advantage in total blocks.   Senior Amelia McCall and junior Breanah Bourque led the way offensively, combining for 36 of the team's 59 terminations.  McCall chalked up 19 successful hitting attempts and posted a solid attack percentage of .348 (19-3—46).  In addition, she contributed 10 digs, her 13th double-double of the campaign.  Bourque continued her season-long torrid play, banging out 17 terminations en route to a .448 attack percentage (17-4—29).  Bourque also chipped in nine digs and three (1-2) total blocks.   Senior setter Natalie Schonefeld doled out 51 assists, the fifth time this year that she has cracked the 50-assists plateau.

Earlier in the day Emory head coach Jenny McDowell played the majority of her reserves against Brandeis with the team responding with a hefty .452 hitting percentage (48-10—84) while holding the Judges to an effort of .112 (22-13—80).  Freshmen Leah Jacobs and Kate Bowman sparked the offensive attack with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.   Senior Kelsey Freeman enjoyed a productive outing with an attack percentage of .800 on the strength of eight kills and no errors in 10 attempts.  Freshman Dana Holt accounted for 37 assists and also totaled five kills, two service aces and three block assists.

By virtue of its 7-0 UAA record, Emory will be the No. 1 seed at the conference championships, Nov. 4-5, in New York.
