Emory Volleyball Opens UAA Round Robin I With Two Wins

The No. 6-ranked Emory volleyball team  opened play at the University Athletic Association Round Robin I on Saturday with a pair of solid victories.  The Eagles began with a 3-0 triumph (25-13, 25-22, 25-11) over New York University before registering a 3-0 verdict against Carnegie Mellon.  The Eagles now stand 18-3 on the year.  The Round Robin I is being held at the University of Chicago.

Emory enjoyed a balanced offensive attack against the Violets of NYU with seniors Alex Duhl and Breanah Bourque, along with sophomore Kate Bowman, all totaling eight kills.  Freshman setter Sydney Miles chalked up seven terminations and recorded 31 assists and two service aces in the victory.  Freshman Taylor Erwin keyed a strong defensive effort for the Eagles with 13 digs while sophomore Cami Silverman recorded 10.

Bourque was unstoppable in the CMU encounter, pounding out 16 kills and contributing four (1-3) total blocks.  Bourque had no hitting errors in 19 attack attempts and her .842 hitting percentage was the third-highest match effort in school history.  Silverman continued her solid all-around play with 10 terminations and a team-high 15 digs.  Duhl rang up seven kills and three solo blocks in the victory.

Emory concludes play at the Round Robin I on Sunday with a match against No. 14 Chicago.
